Business Reorganization
Chapter 11 bankruptcy is also known as "reorganization," because that is its primary objective. The individual or business has 120 days from filing Chapter 11 to file a reorganization plan. A creditors committee, and the court, must approve this plan.
Once the plan is approved, business management can handle the daily operations, but the court must approve any significant decisions. Under Chapter 11, the debtor will repay some of its obligations and will be allowed to discharge others. Chapter 11 also permits a business to discontinue some contracts and leases.
